Greenwich chariot racing

Good morning all,

A few photos and updates regarding Greenwich….

The first photo below is of Andrew, one of our high school kids. Andrew has been coming to our events for some time and is very interested in WWII. I have previously given him a lot of Memior 44 materials that have been donated to HMGS so he could play with his friends. They are now trying out Flames of War, so I once again helped them out with some donated tanks and vehicles. Those on this list from NYWA should know they came from Al Mancini’s collection. I’m sure Al is looking down and happy.

The news here is that Andrew has started the “Strategic Gaming Club” at Greenwich High School. The school didn’t like the word “wargaming” in the title, so “gaming” was a decent compromise. They play every Tuesday after school. One small problem is that they can only play for one hour. So we coordinated with our Greenwich librarian Amy, and are getting them a space at the library to play. Since the old guys in Greenwich use “study rooms” to play cards and backgammon, why can’t we? 😀

I am also going to run our second Hobby U painting class in Greenwich sometime in the new year when they figure out the scheduling. We need a special room to run that event.

The rest of the photos show a funny moment in the chariot game last night. Luigi realized that when you are playing Roman Circus III, there is a chance you might flip when going “all-out” speed with a damaged chariot. Of course Luigi, who has never been known for good luck (we all remembered his Bunker Hill nightmare a few sessions ago), promptly rolled a 6 and flipped. He’s a great sport, and besides, we found out that he and his father have actually watched the movie Ben Hur with Charlton Heston.

The kids voted for the Battle of the Bulge next month since it’s a winter game.

All the best to everyone and a Happy Thanksgiving !

John
