Hi all,
I have attached a few photos from our after school game on Wednesday at the Darien library. School just started, so we should now have a more consistent schedule than in the summer.
We played the Battle of Brandywine Creek from the American War of Independence. We had 3 British and 3 Continental players and focused on Howe’s attack on the right flank of Washington’s line near the Birmingham Meeting House.
The kids in Darien are on the younger side compared to other libraries. Most of them are in 7th grade. So you just have to exercise a little more patience if they get distracted during the game. Overall, the Continental players put up a pretty good fight since they were paying attention when I explained the difference between column and line and taking cover behind fences when they could.
One British player was a little too anxious and marched all his regiments into range while still in column. He paid a heavy price for that, so I’m sure he will remember for next time.
The game ended with a pretty much historical result, with the Continentals being pushed back after putting up a very good fight.
Everyone is looking forward to the big Aztec game next month.
Enjoy the photos,
John
