WW1 trench warfare in New Canaan

Hi all,
Here are some photos from yesterday’s game in New Canaan.  We played a small engagement from the Battle of Verdun since February was the start of what would become one of the longest and bloodiest battles of WWI.
As you can see, we had a nice turnout including 2 families of French descent.  How did I know this?  Well, when they arrived, they were all speaking fluent French, and then switched to English to say hello to me.  In the photos, they are the 2 kids in red shirts, and the girl in the blue sweatshirt next to them.  One of the mothers stayed to play as well, since one of the boys was very young and she was pretty considerate in not making me focus on him.
I later found out that their great grandfather fought at Verdun.  One of the boys actually did some “homework” and prepared a summary of the battle.  So instead of my giving the historical summary at the end, we let the boy give his presentation.  Nice job! I took a photo of his paper that you can see below.
The WWI game is always fun, so everyone had a good time.  They particularly liked the rule that you can try to throw back grenades before they go off.  If you are not successful, it blows up in your face.  We had some good laughs with that.
