Hi all,
My first Next Gen event for 2025 was held yesterday in the teen center at the Rye Library.
We played the same scenario that I ran at PAX Unplugged. It was the Battle of Edington in 878 with Alfred the Great battling the Vikings. This was a mix of high school and middle school students. A lot of them play D&D and Warhammer and a few of them were showing me some of the models they had painted with photos on their phones. I have to say that at least one kid was pretty darn good.
This scenario is always a great time since it’s a VERY even game. There was a lot of screaming, which was good since most of the other kids in the teen center came over at some point to watch. One of the photos is a picture of a some dice with nothing greater than a 3. That’s too bad since poor Will needed 4’s or better to get hits. He ended up getting that unit crushed, but it was pretty funny nonetheless.
One of the pictures was also Jackson taking a selfie of the group. I’m still not sure how I got it, but he said “I air dropped it, no problem”.
My favorite part of the event is actually giving the history lesson at the end. Sarah, the teen librarian, has everyone come over to listen … there are a lot of kids here waiting for pickup. Then everyone packed up for me. It took about 15 minutes. Pretty cool.
I’m coming back here next month for a WWI trench game. I’ll be in Larchmont tomorrow for the AWI Battle of Freeman’s Farm.
