Battle of Belleau Wood (WW1) at Larchmont, NY

Hi all,
Here are some photos from the WWI Battle of Belleau Wood game on Sunday in Larchmont, NY.  As always, everyone loves the WWI games, but this time I saw something that never happened before and I thought was completely hysterical….
All of the units on the board have different troop compositions.  Some kids get a sniper figure as part of their unit.  In the Trench Wars ruleset, snipers are pretty deadly.  Every turn, they get to target a specific figure on the board that they can see.  They roll a die and anything but a 1 is a kill.  All other shooting is done in groups randomly, so this is the only time you can pick the actual figure. The type of figure is marked under the base. Pretty simple, “O” for officer, “T” for trench fighter, “G” for grenadier, and so on.  The catch is that you can’t pick up the figure and look at the code.
So Alex has a sniper figure and I see him playing with his phone.  I have a rule that no phones are allowed while playing except if they want to take a quick picture of the figures.  A few other kids come over and they all start laughing.  So now I think they are just playing a game on the phone, and I tell him to put it away.  Instead, Alex was using the camera function on the phone to zoom in on figures so he could see the best guy to shoot at.
You just have to give some credit for ingenuity !
On another note, we had another parent play, and I think he’s hooked for Historicon.  He will definitely be back next month.
