Hi all,
Here are some photos from our latest Aztec game at the Simsbury Library in CT. It was one of the events held during the day to celebrate the libraries 150th anniversary.
This turned out well for us since a lot of donating patrons attended and stopped by the game to observe. They all commented on what a great program this was for the library. Since they are the people writing the checks to the library, this really helps us going forward.
These kids are mostly high school students at this point. A few regulars had lacrosse practice and couldn’t make it. But we had one new boy named Finn (the small one in the blue t-shirt) who came and really liked it, so he will be back. He got dropped off at the same time that I arrived, so he helped me bring everything inside and helped set up.
They also picked up the rules so quickly, that after a few turns, I almost had nothing to do. Not bad. I spent the time talking to our library contact (Mary) and found out a few interesting things. One of which is that this library makes a BIG deal about diversity and being a bully free safe zone. And two of our regulars come specifically because of that. At pickup time, the mother came along with the grandmother and took me aside and thanked me. That has happened before, but now it made more sense to me. The librarian said that this program pretty much “checked all their boxes” and will definitely be included in next year’s budget, so that’s good news.
One last note…. I included the last picture which is of another Hundred Years War game in Simsbury back in November 2022. You can see Brian (the blond with the vest sweater) and Mathew (small boy in the center). Compare them to the current photos (green hoodie and dark blue jacket) and see how they have grown over 2 years. Pretty cool.
I was pitching the Roman Chariot game for our next visit, so everyone was pretty excited for that.
Hope all is well with everyone. See you in a few weeks !
John
