HMGS Next Gen (1st of 3 events) – WWI game

Hi all,

Just a quick update on the recent Next Gen events this past week.

Last Thursday we hosted a WWI game in Greenwich based on the 1916 Verdun campaign. The French players had to capture the church and small bombed out village with tanks supported by infantry. The younger German players had lots of mortars, infantry, and off board artillery to try and stop them. I was pretty impressed with Anul, one of our regulars, who read all about the battle before the game and knew all about the phrases “they shall not pass” and “bleed France white”. Then again, that’s pretty much our goal, learning some history while playing with toy soldiers!

The older French players had a good attack plan, but the German mortars finally started hitting the tanks as they got closer, and they managed to hold the church and town.

Greenwich also signed a commitment for monthly events through June of next year. The upcoming Aztec game in September is already on their website, and registration is full.

Enjoy the photos below. I’ll also be sending another email about our Hobby U event.

Thanks,

John
